Body length: 18 m

Body weight: 21 t

Epoch: Mid-Cretaceous

Spinosaurus was a huge carnivore with a row of spikes on its back. It had a big head with sharp, straight teeth in its powerful crocodile-like jaw.

Spinosaurus used to feed on other dinosaurs and large fish. The huge sail on its back could have been used for temperature control.

The sail could also have been used for mating rituals to attract a mate. It might have been brightly coloured like the fins of some modern-day reptiles.
